a simple song evokes memories..
kanda naal mudhalai, kadhal perugudhadi

of rustling silk saris.
in the cool winter air..
..hangs the smell of jasmine, hot samosas and filter coffee.
fighting for parking space outside a crowded sabha.
chatting up old friends.
december season..
..in chennai

missing home

arusuvai nagarajan at most sabhas.. wat a time it is... and i enjoyed the most recent season the best, coz i was totally jobless at home, and a lot of friends to go to concerts with, and a lot of concerts BY friends to go watch too.. Nothing like chennai. totally agree. cant wait to fly back after term 1.
and i cant bear Radio mirchi screamin in the mess in the morning, 91.9 Fm... it HAS to be suchi's voice sayin hello CHENNAI and ninety EIGHT POINT THREE fm..

1)Havn't attended a concert in years-the last( and i think, the first) was a Kadri Gopalanath at MFAC 3 years ago
But the food sure does rock
Last Dec, i religiously ate at ALL the sabhas- Arusuvai Natrajan( at the parthasarathy swami sabha, i think) ,Woodlands, Music academy, MFAC...
2) Suchi's grating gets on my nerves!!!

i did that last year too .sabha hopping.. ate everywhere .But i also attended the concerts. I love it when people so passionately discuss the subtle nuances of raagams and all that . There is this slow whisper that passes around the hall in the beginning of each song when people compete with each other to try and guess the ragam as fast as they can and then verify with their little ragam books.. And i was so surprised to see so many 20 something guys who took a month of from their jobs in the States to attend the season. They had the concert schedules in hand and kept running from one sabha to the other..
and noodle - Arusuvai was at parthasarathy swami sabha..love his rava dosais, so crisp and oily.. ah can't wait for December

Yuvan Shankar Raja has remixed the above mentioned song for a new film called "Kanda Naal Mudhal"...

Quite different...actually

The song is like a traditional girl who cannot feel comfortable in the modern dress, he has given her to wear...Hear it if you have the time...

heard a remixed version of it..
doesn't do the song justice.. powerful voice masked by high rpm drum beats..
