It's my party and I'll cry if I want to

The Home ministry has issued notice to the BCCI to refrain from allowing players to display the tricolor on their helmets and clothes. Karun Chandok and Narain Karthikeyan have also been directed to remove the tricolor from their racing helmets.I don't understand. The flag is owned by us. It is as much mine as it is the home ministers.. How exactly is it an insult to the tricolor if I wear it while attending a cricket match or driving a formula one car or playing Pakistan or opening a factory? Seems bueracratic and silly.

I'm up at 1 am because i'm preparing for my review tomorrow. My final year project is supposed to be an opportunity to apply what we've learnt for the past three and a half years to gain practical knowledge. Notice how i said supposed to? In practice it is as disillusioning as the past three and a half years. I've gained nothing much. Apart from some marks, ranks, scores and hopefully two letters to add to my name. In case I've never said this before, our educational system sucks. Everything is about learning by rote, going through the motions and counting the days till you're let out of hell

I've been in bangalore the past week. Enjoying daily trips to Bannerghata and slightly better weather. And surprisingly, free sms. :)

Back to EAP-TLS.. G'nite

The sentiments u expressed are those echoed by almost everyone in an engg college in Tamil Nadu! As an example, here I am orkutting and reading blogs in college on free internet when I'm supposed to be doing project work

Oh, I went through the same phase during the beginning of my last semester. And then, somehow, I found interest in the project to do some useful work on it.

You will get through, don't worry.

I went through the exact same thing when I was doing my Engineering so I know exactly what you're talking about. The interesting thing is, a lot of the same disillusioned folk think that an MBA from a college that's gonna give you a 7-8-9-whatever figure salary at the end of the two years is going to be any different. The system is NOT different. It's just the same. The "writing records" for your practical subjects in BE whilst watching television at home is replaced by googling and taking printouts at 4 am for "case-studies" and presentations. In both cases, you're doing what you need to do to beat the system and get that grade-point at the end of the term. Atleast during the BE, you KNOW that what you're doing is crap; whereas during an MBA, we (collectively and willingly) choose to fool ourselves that what we're doing (or learning to do) is something "important". Why IS the latter so romanticized?

Now that is a disillusioning and disheartening viewpoint, Anonymous!

oh dear!
that IS disheartening.
and i can totally relate to the tv watching record writing.. but is an MBA really the same!!

making me question what i want to do.. but i'd hear your views better if you had a name :)

The measure of a college or a course is in what it can let you make of it.
An MBA can be what you want it to be. It is pretty easy to be mediocre. It is upto you to challenge the limits, and extract the maximum value that you can.

btw.. when's the A interview ?

yup, the system is the same everywhere. even if ya were to chuck all this BE, MBA pursuit down the drain and begin writing or painting or something that ya really wanted to do, the system would still be there to get ya there.. the only difference would be that your pursuit would atleast not be pointless.

Ted,
The Goverment does not own the tri-color, or the flag for that matter. This whole thing with the BCCI started because on the helmets that the Indian players had on, the Indian flag is placed below the BCCI seal. The government objected to that.

So after this if the BCCI flies a flag on a flagpost in their headquarters, and then the logo of the BCCIappears ON THE TOP of the building, the government will object - saying you should always place the flag higher than everything else.

Why doesn't the idiot sport minister, Sunil Dutt do something about it instead of saying its not his responsibility.

Oh wait - the sport minister has no idea about sport.

I feel that as long as people don't do something outrightly insulting, like wear a tricolor jatti, it IS THE RIGHT OF every INDIAN, to wear the national colors proudly, and display the flag on articles of clothing, as long as the flag itself is not used as one.
